Who: Photographer Katie Doherty. Katie primarily shoots weddings and some portrait photography, but is extremely interested in travel photography and documenting new places. These stunning shots can be seen on her site My Walls Are Yellow featuring desert inspired images.
What: A 20 x 30 inch print of an image Katie captured in Joshua Tree National Park using a Canon digital camera and her favorite 50mm lens. She knew it would look great in black and white because of the texture in the tree and the contrast from the sky. This print is custom framed with a mat in our white gallery frame.
I recently launched My Walls Are Yellow, which is a curated collection of my desert-inspired art. This piece is entitled Monochrome and is pictured in a white gallery frame. Growing up in Southern California, I've been drawn to desert landscapes for years. It's not only the palette of delicious earth tones; it's the magic light, the unique landscape, and the feeling of modern warmth.
I have a similar print hanging in my home, above a purple swivel chair I sit at while I read and drink coffee. But the Joshua Tree print I'm holding here was created as a donation piece to the UNICEF NextGen Art Party in Los Angeles that was held February 27, 2016. It's probably my favorite piece from the collection of prints I'm selling at the moment. It stands for the completion of a long-time goal of mine to sell my art as home decor. I'm a big fan of printing images and having tangible products instead of just digitals stored on my phone or computer. To have others honor my art by wanting it displayed on the walls of their home inspires me to keep going.
Our collaboration with Katie and her foray into selling her prints online began a mere five months ago. We're incredibly excited about this partnership, and can't wait to see what the future holds for her stunning photos and the growth of her online print store.
